There have been many times I have wrestled with God and have asked him “Why….?”

a thought that I have been dialoging with some [some that read this] is why ask why to a soviergn God? Your question obviously doesn’t fall on deaf ears when you ask God “Why….?” But what I have come to realize in my meditation on this aspect of, well, being human really (we all ask “Why…?”) is that God isn’t in the business of answers as much as he is in the business of refining. Now I know what I am saying can be twisted – I’m not saying that God doesn’t answer prayer, or even answers the Why questions that we pose to him. What I am saying (more realizing-as I type) is that we should be less concerned about the answers to our why questions and more concerned about saying “I trust you God”.

Something that I have been mulling over is the fact that when I most often ask the “Why Questions” my heart is not 100% surrendered, I recognize that God is working but I’m not willing to follow 100%…. that hurts even as I type it…

Job 38

The LORD Answers Job

1Then the LORD(A) answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:
2“Who is this that(B) darkens counsel by words(C) without knowledge? 3(D) Dress for action[a] like a man;
I will question you, and you make it known to me.

4“Where were you when I(E) laid the foundation of the earth?
Tell me, if you have understanding.
5Who determined its measurements—surely you know!
Or who stretched the line upon it?
6On what were its bases sunk,
or who laid its cornerstone,
7when the morning stars(F) sang together
and all(G) the sons of God(H) shouted for joy?

8“Or who(I) shut………..

One thought on “Why…?

  1. Not that I have it all together or anything but I stopped asking God “why…” a few years ago. I found that it never helped and mostly exactly what you posted – it undermines your trust of God. And I don’t see it in the bible anywhere. Instead I ask a LOT of “What”
    * God, what are you doing in this?
    * God, what is my response to this?
    * What is Your will LORD? Help me to be a part of it.

I have found that to be exceedingly more helpful.
